EAC Launches Business Climate Index Report
EAC has launched the 2011 Business Climate Index (BCI) Report. The main aim of the BCI is to collect and disseminate information on business conditions in the EAC countries. EAC BCI then uses the findings through its national level member associations and individual companies to propose solutions for improving the intra-EAC trade and the general business environment. The findings are key to fast tracking implementation of the integration process.

Committee to Vet South Sudan Set Up
The 24th extraordinary meeting of the EAC Council of Ministers has set up a committee to verify if south Sudan meets the criteria to join the bloc. This is on the back of the Heads of State Summit in November that requested the Council to review South Sudan’s application.

Experts Want Bloc to Speed Up Business Reforms
The East African financial experts have advised the EAC to speed up business reforms in order to encourage domestic investment if the bloc is to realise its integration agenda. According to the World Bank group regional investment climate manager, David Bridgman, the investment climate should be made conducive. “Encouraging local investments will result in microeconomic stability, which is a good measure of commitment in achieving the integration agenda,” he said .
